AstraZeneca’s Nexium, a drug to treat cancer and other conditions, will be a hit by the global pharmaceutical giant, with US regulators giving it a warning about possible health complications from its blockbuster cancer drug.
The move comes amid a massive public health crisis of rising health spending. The US drugmaker’s biggest drugmaker has reported a 9% increase in spending on new drugs this year compared with a year earlier. It’s the biggest drugmaker in the US, with more than 3% of global drugmaker sales. It’s also the biggest on drugmaker lists. In fact, the list of drugs that are likely to make a big impact in the US drug market has more than 4.2 billion prescriptions and nearly 60 million people are taking them.

Pfizer’s Nexium (esomeprazole) has helped nearly 70 million Americans get the cancer treatment that has saved them money since it was first approved in 1998. It treats high-grade, high-risk cancers in people with cancer who are otherwise at an advanced stage of the disease. The drug is now the biggest on-demand cancer treatment in the US. That’s the third biggest on-demand cancer treatment in the US.
Nexium and Prilosec are on AstraZeneca’s US stock exchange. It’s one of the largest on-demand cancer medicines in the industry, with a $1.2 billion market cap in 2012. The stock exchange is currently trading for $1.8 billion, while the stock of the company’s other clients is $2.5 billion.
Pfizer has sold some of its top 25 drugs to drugmakers, including AstraZeneca. The company said it expects to make a total of $7.9 billion in 2015, with the top five drugs having sales of $5.6 billion, with the top 10 drugs having sales of $6.5 billion. In 2015, Prilosec will make $7.9 billion, with the top five drugs having sales of $5.8 billion.
The US Food and Drug Administration on Friday approved a generic version of Nexium to treat severe heartburn, the most severe type of heartburn in the US.

Nexium, manufactured by GSK, is now the best-known generic in the world. It has an active ingredient called esomeprazole, which is known as Protonix. The medication comes in the form of a tablet, and it has been available as an over-the-counter (OTC) version since its launch in 2007.
“Nexium is a great alternative to the brand-name version of omeprazole,” said David A. Auerbach, director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, in a release.
Nexium is known for its ability to help people with severe heartburn get relief from acid-related symptoms. Nexium was once the only medication approved by the FDA to treat severe heartburn.
However, the medication was withdrawn from the market in early 2007 after concerns about its potential to cause ulcers in the stomach.
Nexium has since been withdrawn from the market, however, because of concerns about the safety of certain patients taking the medication. The FDA has approved two new indications for Nexium, the brand-name version and the generic version. The generic is also expected to be sold in the US.
“This decision is a good decision for those looking to manage severe heartburn,” said Dr. Auerbach. “It’s a great medication for people who need relief from acid reflux.”
The FDA’s latest approval for the generic, esomeprazole, is expected in late January 2008. The generic is sold in the US as a 30-capsule tablet, but it was withdrawn from the market in 2007 due to concerns about safety.
Auerbach said that “we are committed to maintaining the quality of life of patients with severe heartburn and to ensuring that patients receive the medications that are most appropriate for them.”
The Food and Drug Administration approved the first generic esomeprazole for adults and children ages 12 years and older. A new indication for esomeprazole was introduced in 2007. It is the only medication approved by the FDA to treat severe heartburn.
The FDA also approved the first generic omeprazole for children ages 6 and older, and the medication is also expected to be sold in the US in the form of a delayed-release tablet. The US Food and Drug Administration approved two new indications for omeprazole, the brand-name version and the generic version.

Dr. Charles Auerbach, director of the FDA’s Office of Generic Drugs, in an emailed statement said the drug is the “only medication approved to treat severe heartburn.”
Auerbach said, “The first-line treatment for severe heartburn is to have a lower dose of the medication, or an increased dosage of the medication. It is important to take the medication at the same time every day and have it available to you in person.”
Nexium is the only medication approved by the FDA to treat severe heartburn, although the drug is not known to cause ulcers.
